When I look in my plugins for Maya, I don't see the Mental Ray *.dll file, though, so I'm thinking that I need to do something else in order to get them working together and ALSO to get the SP3 doing what it needs to so that I can use Viewport 2.0 without it crashing.įor what it's worth, I'm running Windows 8.1 64-bit with an AMD Radeon HD 7570 graphics card and 10GB of RAM. I did a standard installation for Maya 2016, the SP3, and Mental Ray, so they all went to whatever default file locations they were meant to go.
It wasn't.Īpparently, I'm missing some step between downloading and installing both the Maya 2016 SP3 and the Mental Ray plugin and getting them to work on my computer.
I reopened it and checked to see if "Mental Ray" was under my render options.
When I went back into Maya and tested it out using Viewport 2.0, it crashed again. I aslo downloaded and installed the Mental Ray plugin, and then restarted my computer. I checked online and it said that there was a fix in Service Pack 3 (SP3), so I downloaded and installed it. I'm using the student version of Maya 2016 and it kept crashing whenever I was using Viewport 2.0.
